Spring: Refresh, Renew!

Spring officially starts March 20, 2026 but we happily anticipate it before then. Longer days start on Daylight Savings which begins on March 8, when we “spring ahead” and gain an hour of daylight.

March is the ideal time to refresh homes after winter with cleaning to embrace a season of renewal. National Cleaning Week is March 22-28, 2026 but we do what we can, whenever we can. Also, it’s convenient because your home will be fresh and clean in time for Easter celebrations on Sunday, April 5. But cleaning doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In addition to your routine cleaning, we have a few cleaning hacks.

Make your stainless steel appliances sparkle this spring by polishing them with a surprising kitchen staple—olive oil! Simply apply a small amount of olive oil to a soft cloth, buff the surfaces, and you’ll be rewarded with a streak-free, gleaming finish.

Effortlessly refresh your oven racks by placing them in the bathtub for a deep-cleaning session. Let them soak in warm, soapy water to loosen grime, and then use dryer sheets to easily wipe away grease and residue.

Toss your pillows into the washer this spring. A quick spin removes dust, allergens, and the winter blues, leaving you with fresh, fluffy pillows for a rejuvenating night’s sleep.

Scrub any tiled spaces with a simple yet effective DIY cleaning solution of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Watch as this powerful combination lifts away stains and brightens grout.

Grab a lint roller to remove dust and debris from lampshades and other fabric surfaces. This quick and efficient method ensures a polished, lint-free look with little effort.

You can use a Swiffer mop to clean high or hard-to-reach windowpanes. Simply wrap some paper towels around your Swiffer, spray some glass cleaner, and wipe your way to sparkling clean windows.

To make the garbage disposal smell nice and to keep the blades sharp, cut a lemon in quarters and run it through.

If it never occurred to you to clean the exhaust fan vents in your bathrooms, it’s time! So, remove the vents, shake them out, spray them, and wipe them down. If not removable, use a whisk broom to clean them off.

Used dryer sheets can be repurposed to do a variety of household tasks, including wiping your baseboards clean and buffing water spots from any glass and mirrors around your home.

Cell phones are germ infested, but most of us don’t clean them as often as we should. To keep your phone squeaky clean, power it off, wipe it down with a microfiber cloth, which is designed to pick up even the most microscopic particles, including bacteria and viruses. You might as well go a step further and once it’s clean, power it back on and delete old photos no longer needed, texts, old contacts, apps you don’t use, etc.

Another tip: When you’re thinking about Spring cleaning, don’t forget your files. It’s a great time to clean up old files you’ll never need again off your computer and free up disk space.

Now that you’ve accomplished a few tasks, relax and breathe the springtime air knowing you’ve made progress!
